Oh Muse ! Rise once again to kneel and sing
Shake off thy gloom and tune thy lyre to play
Thy happy notes to praise an earthly fay ;
God sent this noble soul to earth to bring
Solace to poor and sick : what mighty kings
Can't do, she did, and had her noble sway
In hearts of all mankind : a gentle way
She paved in this hard-hearted world of things--
No Nobel Prize can weigh her righteous claim
This Indian soil, the source of blessed saints
Hath become holy again by the touch of her feet ;
Her hands that brought succour to poor and maimed
Her face, that gave a motherly kiss and cleansed the taint
Of pain ; sing of that Saint enthroned on Mercy's seat !
